Common Day of Learning

3/4/2014 was APU's Common Day of Learning for Spring Semester 2014.

Instead of using this day to study for finals or attend any of the seminars that were offered that day, Grace, Bekah, and I decided to go to Venice Beach! This was my first time there, and I really did not know what to expect. I know that it was a beach, obviously, and I know that there was more to it than just sand and ocean. I heard there were shops and it was fun to people watch, but that is about it. It actually blew my mind! Venice Beach is extremely gorgeous!

Hehe, you can see Grace in this picture!

We spent the majority of the time walking up and down the boardwalk. There were so many little shops. Most of them sold "Venice Beach" apparel, but a lot of them had these hippie dippie type things, and others were more high end. There were also a lot of cafes. It was a lot like a flea market. People who didn't have stores would try to sell their products or artwork in little tents on the side and stuff. Some of the artwork was absolutely amazing. There was also many street performers! I'm actually very surprised that these performers were not discovered because the majority of them were absolutely incredible. (I need to work on not being so repetitive in my writing. I always get marked down for that on papers -__-). The first place we went was this little fried food restaurant and we got some churros! These churros were INSANE! I am quite the churro lover, so when I say these were good, I mean THESE WERE SOOO GOOD!

After walking for a bit, we decided to go on the beach. We were at the beach after all! We seriously lucked out. This last weekend, there was a storm here in Los Angeles and it had been so cloudy and cold, but this day it was sunny and warm! We all took off our shoes and ran into the water. Sometimes you forget how much fun running from waves is, and just looking at the water pull in and out. Each time I see it, I am utterly amazed by how created Our God is. He is incredible. We had lots of fun doing this! Haha, our clothes kept getting wet from underestimating how big each wave would be, but who cares?! It was so much fun!

Along with the beautiful beach and the boardwalk, there were such beautiful buildings and artwork! I have become obsessed with the architecture here. It's so old and untouched, and I love it. I always complain how San Jose is the OLDEST city in California, yet EVERYTHING HAS BE MODIFIED! They hardly kept any of the old buildings or the old architecture styles. It aggravates because old architecture comes with history and culture that I wish San Jose still had. I loved looking at all the art that was tagged on the walls as well. It really made this area look urban, but so exciting. Cities need pops of color here and there or else they look scary and dull.

At around 4:30, we were tired of walking around and we were ready to leave. Since we were in LA, we knew this would be an awful idea, LA traffic and all. So, we decided to go to The Grove and window shop for awhile until the traffic cleared a bit. Bekah and I had never been to The Grove before! It was so beautiful! It's like imagine disneyland, except just high end stores and no Disney. Sounds kind of awful, but it was actually rather beautiful! I, being me, made sure to keep on the lookout for any celebrities. With my luck, however, I didn't see any. I was hoping to see Gordon Ramsay, not that it would be normal for him to be there. I have always just wanted to meet him (: I love him.

After the Grove, we still had some time before we could drive back to school. We ended up checking out Melrose Ave. I've always wanted to come here! It was so insane seeing the street that I've seen sooooo many times on TV. We went to Urban Outfitters and Crossroads, and passed by a bunch of vintage shops and such. We were all pretty much exhausted by this point, but we needed to kill time.

I ended up buying this super cute dress (: Sorry for webcam. I was too lazy to take an actual picture. Haha, but OOTD! Work and Kaleo! I love this dress! Definitely an excellent find!

Anyway, it is 11pm, and I must get my beauty rest! Au revoir, mes cheries, et bonne nuit ♥
